Reduces patient positioning problems

Developed by Mayo Clinic, the Gamma Camera Shield is used to shield excessive or unwanted radionuclide Tetrofosmin from the field of view of the gamma camera. This is of particular utility when doing cardiac imaging with Sestemibi or Tl-201 with dipyridamole. During these studies, the activity in the gut significantly exceeds the activity in the heart. This causes problems in the positioning of patients and the normalization of the images prior to processing.

Additionally, byte mode acquisition of gated SPECT studies is impossible when there are large amounts of gut activity. This device consists of a flexible, leaded vinyl sheet that attaches to the collimator with VELCRO ® fastener strips. The leaded vinyl is equivalent to 2 mm of lead.
